Tilapia on tour: a roundup of recent foodie events
It’s been a pleasure to attend several exciting in-person events so far this year — with clients, customers and industry representatives from far and wide gathering to celebrate the latest and greatest innovations in the culinary world.
The 2023 early-autumn event season went off with a bang, and we were thrilled to showcase Regal Springs tilapia at two very special industry get-togethers ahead of the busy festive period.
Let’s recap how they went…
Greene King Charity Day and Gala Dinner 2023
On 28 September, we had the absolute honour of attending Greene King’s charity golf day and gala event in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
Held at the beautiful and prestigious Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, this was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate Greene King’s 11-year partnership with Macmillan.
Since 2012, the iconic British pub chain and brewing company has raised over £16 million to support Macmillan’s amazing team of professionals, who offer essential medical, practical and emotional support to people diagnosed with cancer.
To mark this ongoing partnership, Greene King CEO Nick Mackenzie invited us and a selection of other partners for a day of tennis, golf and relaxing at the venue’s stunning spa — punctuated by a gala dinner and silent auction to raise money for Macmillan’s worthy cause.
Not only was this the perfect excuse to participate in an important fundraiser and network with esteemed guests, but attending this highly anticipated event also helped strengthen our relationship with Greene King’s leadership team.
We began working with Greene King earlier in 2023 when it purchased Regal Springs’ sustainably farmed tilapia fillets and loins through UK seafood wholesaler Maris Seafoods, helping introduce our tender, high-protein, nutrient-rich fish to more consumers nationwide.
It was our pleasure to supply Regal Springs tilapia for the Greene King event, and we were thrilled with the reception it received. Several people commented that it was the ‘best dish’ and ‘culinary highlight’ of the day!
And the fun didn’t stop there…
Brakes Foodie Expo 2023
On 12 October, we headed to London for the Brakes Foodie Expo — an event that featured a wide range of food and drink suppliers, chefs and category specialists sharing their latest products and ideas.
The 2023 expo was the first in-person show after a three-year, pandemic-enforced hiatus, during which Brakes held virtual exhibitions for its customers. Despite these online events being a great success, we were amongst many other companies and attendees excited about the return of the live show; there’s nothing quite like experiencing food in the flesh!
Regal Springs joined over 30 leading food brands with stands at the event, inviting Brakes’ customers to try our premium seafood products for themselves. We met with pub chains, catering companies and restaurant representatives, as well as several development chefs who were showcasing dishes to visitors.
Once again, our tilapia went down very well. Mark Irish, the head of food development at Brakes, even praised its impressive flavour profile and suitability for customers looking for high-quality protein at a manageable cost.
LJ Colling, Brakes’ category manager, also commented: ‘Regal Springs’ tilapia provides the versatility and convenience consumers want. It works with a wide range of cuisines and menus, making it an increasingly popular choice amongst UK food retailers and customers alike’.
The team had a wonderful time personally introducing Regal Springs tilapia to Brakes’ customer base, salespeople and account managers, and we hope to do it all over again in 2024!
After all, if there’s one thing we love, it’s a reason to showcase our premium, responsibly farmed tilapia to people who know and love food — allowing us to raise awareness and interest in this sustainable, versatile and delicious fish.
